What to Expect at Your First Reformer Pilates Class
Walking into your first Reformer Pilates class can feel exciting—and maybe a little intimidating. If you're wondering what to expect, you're not alone. It's one of the questions I hear most often at Renew Pilates.
Whether you're completely new to Pilates, returning to exercise after some time away, recovering from an injury, or simply looking for a new way to move, my goal is to make your first class feel welcoming, supportive, and enjoyable from the moment you walk through the door.
First Things First… What is a Reformer?
The Reformer is a specialized Pilates machine that uses springs to provide both support and resistance as you move. It's designed to help you build strength, improve mobility, and move with control through smooth, low-impact movement.
One of the things I love most about the Reformer is how adaptable it is. Every exercise can be adjusted to suit your body, your goals, and your experience level. Whether you're brand new to Pilates or have been moving for years, each class is designed to meet you where you are and help you progress at your own pace.
What Should I Wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely, such as leggings or athletic shorts and a fitted top. Grip socks are recommended for safety and hygiene during your class.
Don't forget to bring a water bottle—we'll take care of the rest.
What Happens During My First Class?
Your instructor will welcome you, introduce you to the Reformer, and explain how everything works before class begins.
Throughout the session, you'll be guided through each exercise with clear instruction and modifications when needed. Our focus isn't on perfection—it's on helping you move safely, build confidence, and enjoy the process.
Is Reformer Pilates Good for Beginners?
Absolutely.
Many of our clients are trying Pilates for the very first time. Every movement can be modified to suit your individual experience level, making Reformer Pilates an excellent option for beginners.
At Renew Pilates, we believe movement should feel encouraging—not intimidating.

New to exercise
Returning after injury or time away from fitness
Looking to improve strength, mobility, and posture
Interested in low-impact movement
Building confidence through guided exercise
